Mission
Continuing the Work of Jesus...
We are called to the ministries of compassion and helpfulness in the love of Christ. One of the ways that our church approaches that calling is reflected in our budgeting process and special offering. Some say that a healthy church devotes at least 10% of its giving to mission work beyond the church. In 2009 the church had an asking budget of $82,000 we are glad to report that our giving to mission work was about $13,000 or almost 16% of our budget.
We gave to a variety of missions including:
Weekday Religious Education
Clothes Closet
Brethren Disaster
Comfort Care Women's Health
Sacra
Shenandoah District and Brotherhood Ministries
Missions work overseas including Haiti
Camp Brethren Woods
Heifer Project International
...as well as others....
The goal of the Stewards of the church is to be wise in the upkeep and maintenance of Church property and programs so we as a church will have funds to support ministries in the community and world.
In addition to giving of our moneys in support of organized mission work, we sponsor church members in their missions. Don Perry is our contact for disaster relief and he communicates the dates of Disaster relief work and recruits members to participate. Teresa Spiller is the chair of the Witness team and they are exploring ministries to Haiti. One event prior to the earthquake was to help build homes for the poorest of Haiti's residents. We had prior to the earthquake 78 of 100 homes built as a Brethren project to the needy.
We participate with other churches in meeting together and networking so we can combine resources to help those in need in our community. Pastors from thirteen churches are now meeting and forming a ministry called Love In the Name of Christ. This organization will help us coordinate the volunteers in our church with the needs of our neighbors.
